CBE And DSE Best Collaboration 2023: Founded in 1965 through the enactment of the College of Business Education Act No. 31 of 1965, the College of Business Education (CBE) has grown into a cornerstone of business education in Tanzania. The official opening in January 1965 by His Excellency J.K. Nyerere, the inaugural President of the United Republic of Tanzania, marked the initiation of a transformative educational journey.

As Tanzania found itself newly independent in 1961, the demand for trained personnel in commercial and industrial activities became apparent. This necessity gave birth to a business training institute, eventually evolving into the esteemed College of Business Education. The subsequent growth of CBE saw the opening of a second campus in Dodoma in October 1983, another in Mwanza in December 2007, and most recently, a campus in Mbeya in 2013, offering a spectrum of diploma and certificate courses.

From a single program in 1965, CBE has expanded its offerings to fifty-one programs in 2023, catering to postgraduate and undergraduate students across all campuses. Currently, the college enrolls a total of 16,988 students and boasts a dedicated faculty of 459 employees, contributing significantly to the nation’s academic landscape.

Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) was incorporated in 1996 and it became operational on 15th April 1998 when TOL Gases Ltd was listed. Currently the DSE has 28 listed companies of which 22 are local companies and 6 are cross-listed companies. On the bonds market, there are several Treasury bonds with maturities ranging from 2 to 25 years and corporate bonds listed at the DSE

Under the guidance of mentors, students will engage in buying and selling shares using virtual money in a simulated environment. Professor Tandi Lwoga, the Acting Dean of CBE, highlighted that this strategic move follows significant reforms in the college’s curriculum, integrating essential investment lessons.

The competition, initiated from the certificate level to the degree level, signifies a shift toward practical learning to keep pace with the dynamic changes in science and technology. By participating in the DSE Scholar Investment Challenge, students are provided with an opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of DSE, Mary Mniwasa, expressed plans to broaden the competition’s scope to include all colleges in the country, fostering a culture of financial education. The competition, running until June next year, aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the risks and benefits associated with stock market investments.

As students from CBE College, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), and the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) vie for success, the competition serves as a gateway for students to actively explore the stock market, preparing them to be future investors and employees with the right skills.
